Our Mission
Give Hope and Homes to Large-Breed, Giant, and Behaviorally Challenged Dogs.
We Rescue, Rehabilitate, Retrain, and Successfully Rehome Abandoned and Sheltered Dogs.
The House of Hope Animal Sanctuary & Rescue is a licensed and insured nonprofit 501(c)3 recognized by the IRS.
This Rescue Is Founded in Loving Memory of Hope Robinson (2011–2024), a Rescued Giant Bernese Mountain and Rottweiler dog, Hope Was Deeply Loved and Is Truly Missed.
This Rescue Assesses and Addresses the Needs of Each Rescued Giant and Large-Breed, Senior, and Behaviorally Challenged Rescue.
It Sets Dogs Up for Permanent Rehoming Through Pre-Placement, Behavioral Training, and Thorough, Thoughtful Vetting of Adopters.
Many long-sheltered giant and large breed dogs are dumped, abused, and repeatedly returned to shelters. They face a higher risk of being euthanized for "behavioral" reasons that could have been resolved with proper training and home placement. The House of Hope is unique in its commitment to rehabilitating, retraining, and then appropriately re-homing these dogs. The House of Hope also carefully places each dog into an appropriate forever home according to the needs of that specific dog and the expressed needs of the adopter.
We understand that each rescue's life depends on our taking the steps necessary to assess, train, rehabilitate, and prepare it for a loving and lasting home. Therefore, each dog rescued by The House of Hope gets needs-based veterinarian care and behavioral training as necessary.
The House of Hope's goal is to help change the narrative about owning large breed dogs.
"We have all heard the myths."
Large-breed and giant dogs are prone to destroy property. They bark more. They are more aggressive toward other dogs and people. They cannot be around children. These myths cause dogs to languish in shelters. Large breed and giant dogs are more likely to be passed over by adopters because and euthanized at shelters to make space for other smaller animals.
Senior dogs are left behind due to stereotypes about age, illness, and lack of agility. At The House of Hope, we rescue senior dogs so that they may live their golden years in loving homes and not be prematurely euthanized, live as strays, or be sent to shelters.
"The gift of rescue should be available to dogs of all sizes."
Why Large Breed and Giant Dogs Desperately Need Rescue and Adoption Assistance
Across the country, large breed and giant dogs make up the majority of shelter populations, yet they are often the last to be adopted and the first to face euthanasia. Housing restrictions, breed stigma, and misunderstood behavior put them at greater risk than other dogs. At The House of Hope, we focus on these misunderstood and overlooked dogs. When given the right care, training, and a safe place to belong, these dogs show the manners, loyalty, intelligence, and affection that make them extraordinary companions.
"Your choice to foster, adopt, and/or volunteer may be the difference between life and death for these dogs."
